Mathison Park was named in honour of Mr WK (Wal) Mathison, the Morwell Shire secretary from 1947 – 1962, “a time when significant development associated with the State Electricity Commission was occurring within the Shire”

Sir Herbert Hyland

Lake Hyland, part of Mathison Park was named in honour of Sir Herbert (John Thornhill) Hyland MLA for Morwell and chairman Latrobe Valley Development Advisory committee 1949-1953;
